SJC's Hedges Moves up to Double A with Padres

The former JSerra catcher leaves Lake Elsinore behind to play in the Texas League.

The San Diego Padres promoted San Juan Capistrano's Austin Hedges to Double A today, the team announced.

According to the Padres website, MLB.com lists Hedges as the third-best catching prospect in the minor leagues.

"The Padres will promote Hedges, 20, from Class A Advanced Lake Elsinore to the Texas League. The move was based not just on merit but because Missions catcher Robert Kral is currently injured," the Padres report.

Hedges played for JSerra Catholic High School. He was drafted in 2011.
