Stallions Football Wins Big over Capo Valley

Sea View League: Victory by San Juan Hills sets stage for unbeaten teams to determine league champion next week.

If Capistrano Valley thought its football game against San Juan Hills would be a cakewalk, they learned within the first few possessions that they were sorely mistaken.

The resounding victory by the Stallions sets up their first-ever shot at the Sea View League championship next week when it plays host to Dana Hills. The victory also dashed Capo Valley's hopes of an automatic playoff berth.

Last year, Capistrano Valley beat the Stallions, 24-7. San Juan Hills was already a much-improved team back then, but nothing like it is today. Coach Aaron Flowers said Friday's victory may have been his team's best game of the season.

Score: San Juan Hills 43, Capistrano Valley, 16

Key stats: Jacob Gibson passed for 254 yards and three touchdowns, and also ran for a score for San Juan Hills. Gibson's scoring passes covered 5, 38 and 45 yards, and he ran in from 1 yard.

Pivotal moment: Leading 16-10 at halftime, San Juan Hills outscored Capo Valley 20-0 in the third quarter; Mike Miscione scored from 2 yards with 8:50 left in the quarter, and Matthew Mucerino scored on a 38-yard pass from Gibson less than two minutes later.

Records: San Juan Hills: 8-1 overall, 3-0 in league; Capo Valley: 5-4, 1-2

Quote: "It was a good win. I'm proud of our kids," said San Juan Hills' Flowers. "We might have had our best game of the year, and it was pretty good timing to have it."
