Warning: Falsework Ahead in San Juan Capistrano

It's kind of like scaffolding, but it holds up a bridge.

In the coming weeks, crews will continue work to reconstruct the south half of the Ortega Highway bridge and will complete several concrete pours as well as begin to erect falsework as early as the week of Oct. 13, according to Caltrans.

Falsework is a temporary structure used in construction to support spanning or arched structures, such as bridges, to hold it in place until the structure can sufficiently support itself.

Full nighttime closures of the I-5 will be necessary to safely facilitate the construction of the bridge falsework. Nighttime closures of the northbound and southbound I-5 will not take place simultaneously, with only one direction of the freeway being closed at any given time. Specific closure schedules will be provided in future construction alerts.

Here are the closures scheduled for this week, through Oct. 5.
