The post is labeled as Trending to denote that it is content from the Trending on Patch category. I hope that clears up any confusion. Also, the post states that is a roundup of headlines from Patchs around the country.
Herbert Kornfeld February 09, 2014 at 08:03 PM
@Brian... don't you guys get it yet? No one wants this trending crap. People come to Patch for local news. There are many more sites that do national news and do it a heck of a lot better too.
Brian Slupski February 09, 2014 at 08:06 PM
@Herbert Kornfeld. Wrong on the "no one wants this." But if you don't want it that's fine, don't click on it. I am putting Trending in the headline because I don't want people to click on a headline thinking its local if it is something being shared nationally.
Beth Evans February 09, 2014 at 08:24 PM
OMG seriously people quit your bitching!! Are you paying for this service?? Ungrateful A-holes!! Take your nasty negative attitude elsewhere...there's more important things to worry about in life, than your pettiness for things not being your way!
green February 09, 2014 at 08:31 PM
I had to read through half the article to find out this wasn't a local story. The only purpose is link-bait and it got me.
Jeffrey Wright February 09, 2014 at 08:31 PM
@ Beth , Blow it out your arse !!! Comments are for opinions and yours is rather hypocritical .....
Derek Craft February 09, 2014 at 09:02 PM
Unless you think that Diamond Bar or the 60 Freeway are local, you should have known immediately that this was not local news!
green February 09, 2014 at 09:09 PM
Patch's tagline is: "Hi there, we're Patch, your source for local knowledge you can't live without." LOCAL
Jojo February 09, 2014 at 09:39 PM
This new Patch is an abomination. Filled with news story headlines you think are local but find are from other states just to get clicks to sell advertising. The Patch's CEO is also the CEO for a division of AOL...it's all about headlines that get clicks. Nothing more. It's their new mission statement. CLICKS.
Brian Slupski February 09, 2014 at 09:54 PM
@Jojo – The shared national stories are either clearly national or have Trending in the headline. If this is not content you are interested in, do not click on it.
green February 09, 2014 at 09:56 PM
I guess because of all of the "distressed" babies they can't afford local stories on Patch anymore. Speaking of "trending", how are supposed to know that means National Stories? Can't a local story be "trending"?
Brian Slupski February 09, 2014 at 09:59 PM
@Green – Trending means its a post we are sharing widely. The daily roundup always has Trending, for example. f you are overly concerned that you might accidentally click on an interesting story from far away, don't click on them. You should be safe.
Brian Slupski February 09, 2014 at 10:01 PM
@Green – Not to mention the post states that its a round up and the headline of the first story says "Diamond Bar."
Bonnie L Wicks MacDonald February 09, 2014 at 10:20 PM
Do I care what happens thousands of miles away? Nope
Brian Slupski February 09, 2014 at 10:27 PM
@Bonnie – That's fine. If I were you I would bookmark the East Hampton homepage. Also, if you see a post with Trending in the headline, then it is something shared that might not be local. Just an FYI for future reference.
Terri February 09, 2014 at 11:01 PM
It wouldn't bother me if, when I moused over the headline, it listed the Patch from which the story actually originated--not my local patch. That's misleading. "Trending" could mean trending locally.
chris February 10, 2014 at 12:55 AM
Truely saddening, but has nothing to do with my hometown. Why am I seeing this?
Kimberley M. February 10, 2014 at 04:05 AM
I think it's incredibly sad when the editor gets on the blog and band mouths his readers. The patch has been falling apart for sometime but taking that attitude and talking to people like their idiots isn't going to make them want to read. Just some food for thought.
WINEGUY51 February 10, 2014 at 07:06 AM
"local news per the patch"=anyone who shares the same solar system with mars....
WINEGUY51 February 10, 2014 at 07:09 AM
brianslupski@THINKFORAMINUTE........please..try and understand the foolishness of your argument!..."local" means down the block from you..not 15,000 miles away under a rock...behind a never heard of forest...
cracker jack February 10, 2014 at 08:37 AM
Hi Brian! I appreciate all the news from Patch. The clarification on trending (national) news was good to know but there is no pleasing some folks. It seems it is all about them. Lol. I'm sure Patch won't be missing their clicks. No where did I see Brian trash a reader. His responses have been professional and courteous. For the record, some readers do have family and friends located elsewhere in the country and appreciate the updates on News from other areas. Thanks so much!
commonman February 10, 2014 at 08:53 AM
local news only please
Ed Turner February 10, 2014 at 09:20 AM
get off the chelmsford patch your stories are none relevant to the town i live in your media news stinks
Ed Turner February 10, 2014 at 09:22 AM
Simple solution boycott and unlink this garbage
Brian Slupski February 10, 2014 at 09:29 AM
@Kimberley – I didn't think I was being disrespectful to readers. I was being honest. I understand some people might not like this feature, but other people do like it. All I am doing is pointing out that it is labeled with Trending in the headline so that people who do not like it can avoid it.
its me February 10, 2014 at 02:30 PM
the feature sucks.. I want local news
Tony February 10, 2014 at 05:02 PM
I would be more interested to know why that guy was on the wrong side of the highway, was it drinking , or texting ,or what?
Michael Weston February 11, 2014 at 12:55 AM
It's always sad when people die in auto collisions. Imagine Patch reporting every single one in the nation everyday. I'm not into Fox, but here's a enlightening article, http://www.foxnews.com/story/2005/02/03/car-crashes-kill-40000-in-us-every-year/ Patch attracted us (baited us) into reading it because it started as a local news site. If Patch starts giving us more & more national news, I won't be the only one who's less inclined to want to spend time reading it.
Jennifer Green-Keller February 11, 2014 at 07:53 PM
I no longer live in Maryland but like to check in and see what's going on in the area. I have a rental home there as well as family. I have to agree, the new Patch is frustrating. I get the concept but it's irrelevant. The Patch is supposed to be local news. If I want world news I will log on to a world news site or yahoo for that matter, they have turned into a trending site also, hence the reason I no longer have an email account with them. Looks like I will subscribe to the E-Edition of the Aegis for local news. I would rather pay for what I want then sort through the garbage.
