Coming Attractions: I-5 Closures, Beatles, Rodeo Week

A peek at what's happening in and around San Juan Capistrano this week.

By Patch Staff

1. Licorice Pizza/Tower/Wherehouse/Music Plus Memorial: Monday is Vinyl Record Day. Forsake your iPod and CDs to relive the warmth and crackle of a good old-fashioned LP.

2. Freeway closures: As construction continues on the Ortega Highway overpass, some lanes of the 5 Freeway will be closed at night between Junipero Serra Road and Camino Capistrano. The number of southbound lanes will be reduced from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday this week. And the number of northbound lanes will shrink from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday night.

3. Fab Four Fun: Beatles fans can check out two events this week. On Tuesday, the Laguna Playhouse kicks off "Britishmania,'' a Beatles tribute concert. Performances will run through Aug. 25. The theater is at 606 Laguna Canyon Road, Laguna Beach. On Thursday, celebrate Beatles Day at the Sawdust Art and Craft Festival on Laguna Canyon Road. Beginning at 10 a.m., guests can enjoy 1960s-themed art activities and classes, as well as Beatles cover bands.

4. Back to nature: Caspers Wilderness Park offers two outdoor adventures this week -- a family-friendly campfire program Saturday night, and a guided nature hike Sunday morning.

5. Yee-haw! Calling all cowboys, cowgirls and city slickers. San Juan Capistrano Rodeo Week 2013 moseys into town Friday and rides off into the sunset Aug. 25.
