Miracles, 30th Anniversaries and Leftovers

What's going on in San Juan Capistrano this weekend.

1. The time of year for miracles: Miracle on 34th Street begins Friday at the Camino Real Playhouse. Doors open at 6:30 for the gala dinner, evening shows start at 8, the matinee at 2 p.m.

2. Time to clean up: The beach that is. Doheny State Beach will offer its last “housekeeping” event of the year. If you’re interested in helping clean up the beach, the park and San Juan Creek, bring a pair of work gloves with you for the 9 a.m.-noon event Saturday.

3. Tis the season to eat leftovers: Don’t forget our article with Thanksgiving leftover recipes.

4. Celebrate good times, come on: The SJC Library Friends of the Library is celebrating the library's 30th birthday this Sunday with wine/cheese/appetizers and, of course, cake. We are hosting the exquisite Helena Modjeska Exhibit (courtesy of the Helena Modjeska Society) as part of our Friends' Appreciation Day Open House for this one day only. It's a definite "MUST SEE," according to Mary DeMers. Las Golondrinas, (also marking 30 years in January) will provide appetizers, as will Montego Restaurant & Bar, Catering Chef Louis Lepe and Catering by Mario’s. We will even kick off the holiday season with a tree (courtesy of the American Cancer Society) and a mini concert by Kathy Gahagen (“A Voice to Remember”). Free/open to the public; reservations REQUIRED. RSVP to: (949) 218-4512.
