Mission San Juan Capistrano
Drag box to select area
The city of San Juan Capistrano sprung up around this historic Mission complex after it was built in 1776. The ruins of this original Mission structure are located here, forming the focus of the museum. There are manicured gardens on the 10-acre site where adobe preserved architecture and exhibition texts tell the history of an earlier California. The Mission is a registered monument with the National Historic Preservation Trust. In 2000, Pope John Paul II named this special place of pilgrimage a "minor basilica."
