Owner and gemologist Abby Kahn was born in South Africa where he apprenticed with some of the best craftsmen in the diamond district. He started Abby's Designs in 1990, when he moved to the United States. The store showcases the one-of-a-kind design of Kahn's jewelry and it also has a small selection of vintage watches that are for sale. In the center of the showroom is a double bass player because Kahn is also known for his jazz band, Riff-Raff, a contemporary jazz and swing band that performs in the area.

The menu also offers plenty of vegetable and salad selections for vegetarians. The wine list is filled with great California-region wines and the fully stocked bar offers cocktails, beers and sodas. The center aims to engage the entire family in fun activities that will teach some basic environmental conservation that will affect the home and the community. The actual structure, the Congdon House, is the oldest wooden structure in town since it was erected in 1887.
