949 ATHLETICS TAKES BRONZE MEDAL IN 2012 SCVA BOYS CLASSIC VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

South County-Based Team Wins Nine Consecutive Matches As it Prepares to Compete in Junior Nationals  

SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY, Calif., June 17, 2012 –– 949 Athletics, a highly competitive volleyball club that serves South Orange County, today announced its 15 and under (15U) team won the Bronze Medal at the SCVA Boys Classic event held this past weekend at the Anaheim Convention Center and American Sports Center.  The tournament, which drew 40 teams from across the Western United States, began Friday, June 15 and ended on Father’s Day, June 17, 2012.  949 15U Black won nine consecutive matches, consisting of 23 games, over three days to qualify for the semi-finals in the Gold Bracket.  The team logged only a single loss, which was its final match to #1-ranked HBC who won the Gold.

During the 2012 season, 949 15U Black, comprised of talented volleyball players from four local high schools (Dana Hills, JSerra, Mission Viejo and San Clemente), earned a bid to play in the USA Volleyball Junior Nationals in Dallas, Texas July 3-6, 2012.  At Junior Nationals, commonly also referred to as the “Junior Olympics,” the top 24 15U volleyball teams in the nation have been invited to compete for the Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Open Division to determine the top teams in the USA.
