Would You Valet Your Car in San Juan Capistrano?

The owners of the Franciscan Plaza propose the Beverly Hills treatment for visitors to downtown San Juan.

A little bit of Beverly Hills in San Juan Capistrano? Valet parking may be coming to downtown.

The owners of Franciscan Plaza would like to offer valet services from the curbside at Camino Capistrano.

The Planning Commission will take up the request at its Tuesday meeting. Nick Taylor, a city planner, is recommending approval.

“Valet parking is generally regarded to more efficiently park vehicles than self-parking because the valet attendants can immediately park vehicles in designated spaces, rather than circulating throughout the parking area looking for a spot,” Taylor wrote in a report to commissioners.

The valets would accept the cars just south of Verdugo Street, then park them on the lowest level of the parking structure which abuts the railroad tracks.

The service would cost $5, and it would be open to the public. The hours would be from 5 p.m. to midnight on Fridays, noon to midnight on Saturdays and noon to 9 p.m. Sundays, according to a letter from Franciscan Plaza owner Alfa Plaza LLC.

The Planning Commission meets at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 32400 Paseo Adelanto in San Juan Capistrano.
