Governor Brown Diverts $200 million in Needed Funding Away From CUSD

In a Presentation at the May 28, 2014 CUSD Board meeting, Deputy Superintendent of Business Services, Clark Hampton informed Trustees that Governor Browns new funding formula does not provide the District with enough funding to provide CUSD students with a basic education.

Under the new LCFF CUSD will receive $6,773 per student.

California reported per pupil expenditures of $8,341 while the national average is $11,864.

IF CUSD were funded at the national average, the District would receive over $200 million more each year in per pupil funding.

To make matters worse for CUSD, Governor Brown is forcing Districts to contribute substantially more money to CalSTRS and CalPERS in order to shore up the underfunded pension plans.

The amount is projected to grow to 10% of the Districts total Budget by 2021 while CUSD's ADA is projected to grow to just over $8,500 by 2021.

Every Parent and Taxpayer should read the Board Presentation.

I encourage Parents and the Public to contact your legislators and ask them to raise the Base Funding Grant to $9,500.
