Another Resident Throws Hat into City Council Race

Robert Williams, the chair of the Planning Commission, pulls nominating papers Monday.

Robert Williams, chairman of the city’s Planning Commission, has pulled papers to run for San Juan Capistrano City Council.

He’s the fourth person to pull papers for the two seats that are open in November’s election. Currently, those seats are held by Councilmembers Sam Allevato and Laura Freese. Allevato has pulled his nominating papers while Freese has yet to do so.

The other two residents who have expressed their interest are Tom Marantz and Melissa Abbott.

Nobody has filed the papers yet.

. Should an incumbent decide not to run again, that date is extended to Aug. 15.

As well as serving on the city’s Planning Commission, Williams is a member of the Design Review Committee, which often refines the various development projects that ultimately come before the Planning Commission.
