By the way when I was in Kindergarten, we played, took naps and listened to stories. Today'sRead More Kindergarteners are reading books, writing sentences and learning to add and subtract. Check the Common Core Standards. The bar has been raised!

Since I teach Kindergarten I will answer that. Kindergarten is a half day for children but a fullRead More day for their teachers. These little ones need a lot of attention during their first year of school in order to help them to grow and hopefully become lifelong learners. By offering a split day (early birds & late owls), it allows the teacher to work with smaller groups for part of the school day. This is more work for the teacher who must duplicate lessons for each group. But the benefit to the students make it worthwhile.

Still don't understand why there is half day kindergarten - it needs to be full day. We as taxRead More payers in this state and parents should be doing everything we can to ensure children are being given the best opportunity for a public education and make them raise the bar. Kids these days are losing out due to the school years getting shorter and class sizes getting bigger all because money keeps getting siphoned out of the system. The state's priorities are backwards and the children are suffering because of it.
