'Outstanding Philanthropists' Award Bestowed on Capistrano Couple

San Juan Capistrano residents Jim and Sheila Peterson will be honored Nov. 15.

San Juan Capistrano philanthropists Jim and Sheila Peterson will be honored Nov. 15 for their commitment to improving the lives of Orange County children.

They are the recipients of the Outstanding Philanthropists award, which will be presented on National Philanthropy Day, organized by the an umbrella organization for fundraising groups nationwide.

He is the CEO of Irvine-based Microsemi Corporation, a techonology manufacturer for large companies like Sony and Dell.

"Jim Peterson has generously leveraged his position to support arts and education programs across Southern California, raising the profile of his chosen programs, and bringing in new friends and donors," states a press release from National Philanthropy Day Orange County.

His charitable contributions include serving as an advisor to the Pacific Symphony president. Additionally, together with Sheila, they contribute to a music education program serving 17,000 students countywide.

The Petersons also support Court Appointed Special Advocates. Sheila Peterson is an active member of the MIND Institute awards dinner committee.
