Get Out: Festivals, Charity and Drug Disposal

The best of the weekend in San Juan Capistrano.

Time to kick off this warm, sunny weekend! The next couple of days include a couple of festivals, including the Day of the Child/Dia del Niño and the Dana Point Grand Prix, as well as a charity garden tour and an event to raise awareness about prescription drug use.


Where/When: , 25601 Camino del Avion; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30.
Why go: The Boys & Girls Club, CREER youth, the city's Youth Advisory Board and the Orange County Sheriff's Department are raising awareness about prescription drug use. You'll have the opportunity to toss out your unused and unwanted prescription drugs for safe disposal, and then check out the science lab, game stations and a live band for dancing at the Teen Center at the Boys & Girls Club.

Where/When: Camino Capistrano and La Zanja, San Juan Capistrano; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
Why go: will include food, theater performances, and plenty of activities for children of all ages.

Why go: This year’s event benefits cancer research; plus an expo with plenty of vendors who serve cycling fans.

Where/When: 31252 Belford Dr.; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday
Why go: it and enjoy the serenity among the plants and garden decor, rose-covered arbors, birdbaths, and several tranquil water features at the home of Karen and Mark Rottmann—a stop on the yearly, self-guided charity event held by the Mary Lou Heard Foundation.
Pricing: No set fee for viewing the gardens; donations welcome
