Indy 500? Pshh, Volunteer at Rancho Capistrano, Rick Warren Says

No need to watch the Indy 500—in this YouTube video, famed pastor Rick Warren does an elementary reenactment in the hopes you'll ditch your TV on Memorial Day to volunteer at instead.

"Memorial Day is a day that nobody does anything," he says in the video. "You don't wanna stay home and watch the Indianapolis 500. I'll tell you what it is," he says, moving his arms in a circle while making zoom sounds. Now, "You've seen the Indianapolis 500."

Located off the 5 freeway, just south of the 73 tollway on-ramp, Rancho Capistrano is one of Saddleback Church's many Orange County campuses. The mega-church began leasing the 20-acre property in May 2010, and recently, church leaders have begun constructing a new foyer to accommodate more chairs, "beauty" and a baptism pool, Warren says in the video.

"On Memorial Day, I hope to get 1,000 people of our church family to come to Rancho Capistrano for the day and we're going to have a full day of clean-up: scrapping, painting, clipping, trimming, vacuuming, raking ... and everything like that."

As if missing the 100th anniversary of the iconic motorsport race isn't incentive enough, Warren says there will be a big ol' barbecue after the volunteer work is done.
