Walmart Gives San Juan Charity $10K

Homefront America is the only California nonprofit that supports veterans and military selected by the retail giant.

The foundation arm of Walmart has gifted A San Juan Capistrano-based charity that seeks to help military members and their families.

The major retail chain has been announcing its “12 Days of Giving” recipients on Facebook. Under the category for “veterans and military,” Homefront America is the only California-based organization.

“We are deeply grateful to all those who took the time to nominate us, the Walmart associates for considering us, and finally to the foundation for selecting us as one of the winning organizations,” said Mamie Yong Maywhort, treasurer and spokeswoman for the nonprofit.

The money will be used to continue the work Homefront America set out to accomplish more than seven years ago, “to provide quality, caring, and meaningful support to our troops and their families, especially the children,” Maywhort said.

“Since the announcement, we have received many heartfelt congratulations from everyone,” she added. “Their kind words are deeply touching and very inspiring. We are truly blessed to have such great support.”
