Students of Stand-up Show

Students of Stand-up Show Returns to Camino Real Playhouse Graduation show features six new Orange County comedians.

Whoever thought there was a shortage of funny people in Orange County, you better think again. Another 'Students of Stand-up' comedy show rolls into San Juan Capistrano on Friday, July 20th featuring six new aspiring stand-up comedians waiting to make their comedy debut.

After only six weeks of training, these newest comedy graduates are ready to show the world just how funny they are. During that time, they’ve learned basic joke writing skills, stage technique, and how to hopefully handle stage fright and hecklers.

Graduating performers in the July 20th show are Sky North, Kyle Peterson, Harris Smith, Walt Stevens, SethSultan, and Andy Torok. While none of the students have ever performed stand-up before, comedian and instructor Tom Riehl is convinced people will be surprised at how funny they really are. In addition to the students, Riehl will be the evening’s emcee along with professional headliner Vince Harper to close out the evening.

Riehl, who began his comedy career 18 years ago, feels its time to give something back after all these years. “When I see these people walk into class for the first time, I immediately remember how I felt when I first started. They really deserve a lot of credit for sticking it out and doing something most people would never even consider.”

A longtime south Orange County resident, Riehl has worked with the likes of Bob Saget, Paula Poundstone, Alonzo Bodden, Shawn Wayans, and James P. Connolly as well as musical acts Berlin, Three Dog Night and David Pack of Ambrosia. He was also a winner on ABC’s America’s Funniest People” and host of the cooking show “Food Rules”. Recently he was named “Best Clean Comedian” at the Eagle Rock Comedy Festival.
