San Juan's Adopted 1/11: 'Every Marine an Infantryman and a Cannoneer'

The battalion is featured in the latest edition of Leatherneck magazine.

San Juan Capistrano's adopted 1st Battalion, 11th Marines is featured in the latest edition of Leatherneck, known as the "Magazine of the Marines."

The reporter who tells the battalion's story is Andrew Lubin, who was embedded with the Marines in Afghanistan in May and June of 2010. Lubin opens his story with a quote from Lt. Col. Adolfo Garcia Jr. about how the 1st Battalion, 11th Marines 'did it all' during its deployment to the Helmand and Nimroz provinces.

"[Garcia's] artilleryman had perhaps the most robust artillery deployment since 1st Battalion, 10th Marines fought at An-Nasiriyah in 2003," Lubin writes. "A high point during the deployment  was their assignment as an integral part of Task Force Highlander for Operation Steel Dawn II ... to conduct 'shoot and scoots' around the southern city of Barham Chah, which had been identified as a critical logistics hub through which the insurgents were receiving and distributing munitions throughout the country."
