Residents can swing by an open house at the at 32120 San Juan Creek Rd. from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. SDG&E representatives will be on hand to discuss the project, titled South Orange County Reliability Enhancement.

Plans call for razing and replacing the old, ivy covered building that fronts Camino Capistrano, and rebuilding it with a taller, 50-foot structure, as well as constructing a new building at the rear of the substation. Additionally, the power lines and poles on the six-acre site and those that feed the substation will be upgraded.

The enhancements will increase the power supply and reduce the likelihood of outages as the aging infrastructure will be upgraded, spokesman Duane Cave has said.

Cave has also said that SDG&E wants public input on the design and aesthetics of the new buildings.
