Update: CHP Reports Roadway Flooding Near Landfill

Rain showers have given way to steady, moderate rain across Orange County, with .35 inches falling as of 8 p.m. in San Juan Capistrano, the National Weather Service reports.

At 8 p.m., the California Highway Patrol reported that San Juan Creek was overflowing near the Prima Desheca Landfill, sending water into the roadway.

Rain slicked the roads, and the CHP to respond to multiple crashes in San Juan Capistrano, including two that slowed traffic on the southbound 5 freeway shortly after 7 p.m. A solo spinout blocked the left lane just north of Camino Las Ramblas. Two cars were were involved in an accident at Ortega Highway, with one reported rolling over after hitting the center divider.

Two weather systems will move into Orange County this week, bringing up to one-third of an inch of rain starting this afternoon. There’s a slight chance it will be wet on Saturday—the day of the . 

A low-pressure system off the Central California coast will move inland across the Southland tonight, followed by a second, fast-moving, storm over the Gulf of Alaska that will make its way into Southern California Thursday night, the National Weather Service reports.

In San Juan Capistrano, there’s an 80 percent chance of rain today, 49 percent chance Thursday, 50 percent chance Friday and a 20 percent chance on Saturday.

Up to one-third of an inch is expected in coastal areas. Nearby mountains could see more rain, as well as snow. Snow levels will lower to 4,500 feet today, and possibly 3,500 feet by Thursday.
