Been there, done that.....???

Have you been to our Relay before?  Then you know what it is all about.  Not been there before?  Then you are in for a treat.  But frequent participant or newcomer, this year we will have some great new stuff for you.

As we have done in the past, we will have our opening ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday.  This is when things really kick off.  If you are a cancer survivor, or a caregiver to someone with cancer, we would love to see you here at 10.  Our survivors lead us on the opening lap.  Scheduled to appear is the Los Rios Rock School to help cheer us on.  Other groups will entertain us during the day and at 9 p.m., we will have our luminaria ceremony.

Whereas the opening ceremony is a celebration of those who have survived, this ceremony, at least in my mind, is more of a chance to remember those who have lost the battle or those currently fighting who are too ill to join us.  Seeing those hundreds of luminarias around both sides of our quarter mile track really makes me stop to think of how darn lucky my family is.  Sure, I have lost relatives and friends, but thanks to cancer research into better medicines and surgeries, earlier detection methods, and education on warning signs to watch out for, it is not the death sentence it was once thought to be.

But I digress, what I really want to point out is all the fun things we have going on this year.  As it gets closer to the event, I will blog about one of the hallmarks of the San Juan Relay - their entertainment, both on the main stage and at the kids camp.  If you want a sneak peek, the current schedule is listed on our website at www.RelayForLife.org/SanJuanCapistranoCA.  Be sure to mark your calendars for June 29-30 and see you at the Relay!!!!!
