Land of the Free and Home of the Brave

As we celebrate our nation’s 237th birthday, let us take a moment to think about those who protect us.  For years before 9/11, I said we were very lucky to be as innocent as we were.  I heard and read about terrorist attacks in Israel and Ireland, among other places, and thought it was just a matter of time. . .turns out I was right.  Although our eyes are open a bit more, we still live pretty freely thanks to the brave men and women of the United States Military who take the fight to foreign shores. To show my thanks, I do what little I can to support them.

This August 1400 Marines and Sailors from Camp Pendleton will be deploying overseas.  To show them how much I appreciate their sacrifices, I am helping to organize the Homefront America iCare Package program by collecting goodies to place in gallon size zipped plastic bags, and hope you will join me to do the same.

If you are not familiar with Homefront America, I recommend that you visit their website at www.homefrontamerica.org.  I think you too will be inspired by what they do.

So, what are we looking for in an iCare Package?  We need non-perishable items such as granola bars, cookies, crackers, popcorn, beef jerky, healthy and fun snacks, etc.  Items can be homemade or store bought.  The only items we cannot use are those that can melt or break.  In addition, notes or cards of gratitude are welcome and can be a great project for school age children. service clubs, church groups, scout troops, etc.

If you would like to help support this program, or require additional information, please contact me at KalKaryn.Patch@gmail .com.

This summer as we enjoy our time at the beach and other places, please remember the men and women who are serving in different parts of the world who make this possible.  With a small sacrifice from all of us, I am confident we can show them our thanks for their big sacrifices.
