OBIT: Longtime Boys & Girls Club Volunteer Cathy Von der Ahe

She ran the after-school tutoring and homework club in San Juan Capistrano.

A longtime volunteer at the Capistrano Valley Boys & Girls Club has passed.

Catherine A. Von der Ahe ran the after-school tutoring and homework club for the club.

She died Jan. 4, surrounded by family, according to O’Connor Mortuary, just two weeks before her 66th birthday.

Von der Ahe received a master’s degree in English from UCLA in 1971 and went on to teach at Manual Arts High School, and then Joseph Le Conte Middle School, both in Los Angeles.

She left teaching to tend to her four children. She is survived by her husband Bo, her children Matthew and Jennifer Von der Ahe, Andrew Von der Ahe, Daniel Von der Ahe, and Christina and Brian Rayburn; her four grandchildren; her siblings Nancy Gary, Christine King, and Robert Teague; and many loving friends and students.

A memorial service was held Monday at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church. The family asks that donations may be made in Cathy’s memory to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley, 1 Via Positiva, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675, www.bgccapo.com.
