Body of SJC Man Found at Detox Center

Neighbors of Huntington Beach facility tell KABC News they're not surprised. They've lodged a number of complaints since it opened last year.

KABC News is reporting that a body found at a detox center in Huntington Beach is a 28-year-old San Juan Capistrano resident.

Huntington Beach Police say the body found at West Coast Detox Center belongs to Jason Redmer, according to KABC. Officials say the coroner’s office is investigating the death.

Redmer was a patient at the center, which detoxifies patients before they enter a treatment program.

KABC reported that a number of neighbors have complained about the center since it opened last year. Not only is West Coast located next to homes, it’s also near an elementary school.

"It's very sad when anybody loses their life but at the same time I'm not entirely surprised," Huntington Beach resident Kristine Callahan told KABC.

West Coast Detox Services Executive Director Don Ramsey had no comment Monday.

This facility is preys on people with drug problems by taking there money and making empty promises of recovery. My heart goes out to the Redmer family.

You've got that right Lucy . . . On Monday Morning the 16th at approximately 7:30 a 28 year old young man was found COLD, DEAD and UNRESPONSIVE by the HB Fire Department and Police at West Coast Detox Services, in their "Detox" House at 6381 Yale Circle in Huntington Beach. He was removed by the Coroner at about 11am. It was reported by Eileen Frere, Channel 7 Eyewitness News and streaming live on their website. This is just another example of Great Staffing by Residential Rehabs and their Owners like Mr. Ramsey. MINIMAL OPERATING COST for MASSIVE PROFIT. You and your loved ones are putting your lives at risk by patronizing Residential Rehabs and Detox Houses. Had Nurse Rachette the "House Mother" at WCD had not been asleep at the wheel and monitoring this young man properly - she would've known this young man was in trouble long before he became just another statistic. The biggest problem is that both the Detox and Sober Living Houses of West Coast Detox Services and their Owner/Operator - Don Ramsey are able to operate at completely different levels unregulated with little or no over site with either. Their "Detox" house is license by the State thru (ADP) the Alcohol and Drug Program; and their "Sober" house is license by the City as a business, but with no follow-up. This allows Mr. Ramsey to conduct business however he pleases for Maximum Profit with No Disciplinary Action or Enforced Obedience to the Licensor. The Laws simply need to be changed!

We have a very complex problem with West Coast Detox Services, operating as a "Residential Rehab" with a Detox and a Sober House set-up on our street less - Yale Circle in HB - than 50 feet from an Elementary School WITHOUT any notice of any kind. The Business Owner/Operator is nothing more than a Profiteer making a massive amount of Profit off of naive and unsuspecting family's who entrust these characters with the care of their loved ones who are suffering drug and alcohol and addictions. Since Mr. Ramsey and Owner(s) of the 2nd house do not live on the premises, their two families HIDE and are able to live a Peaceful existence; while our neighborhood is left to contend with a barrage of problems and the crime it brings - and there are many . . . I'll support their so called "Transition" when they are moved out to the country or a ranch where they are treated accordingly for their addictions and cannot bother anyone. These pop-up Rehabs are NOT Hospitals nor are they Betty Ford Clinics. These people have Not even begun to pay a price for their actions. We are NOT responsible for their problems and We should NOT have to pay the price for what they've done. The city and state laws and ordinances simply have to be changed and modified!
