Capistrano Brush Fire Remains a Mystery

The blaze burned 7.5 acres and was deemed suspicious.

Remember the 7.5-acre brushfire in the Northwest Open Space west of the I-5 last September? Fire investigators still don’t know who started it.

That same late September weekend, two smaller fires were started in nearby Laguna Niguel. Investigators said at the time it looked suspicious.

But since then, if you can excuse a pun, the trail has gone cold.

“They never really got any leads,” said Orange County Fire Authority spokesman Steve Concialdi. “We’re not sure what happened.”
