Dana Point Man Dies After Driving off Bridge

Car falls from the Alicia Parkway bridge onto the train tracks in Mission Viejo.

A man killed in a gruesome accident Friday evening has been identified as a Dana Point resident.

A car driven by Craig Engstrom fell from the Alicia Parkway bridge Friday evening just before 7 p.m., killing him, said Lt. Gary Strachan with the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

According to Strachan, Engstrom lost control, hit the center divider and drove off the bridge between lanes; his Lexus landed upside-down on the train tracks.

No other people or vehicles were involved in the accident, authorities said.

Craig Engstrom was 52. He died at the scene.

Strachan said that trains were stopped in both directions. There was no train involved in the incident.

Mission Viejo student Anastasia Bolton and Danny Akins were killed under the same bridge in Sept. 2010 after being struck by a train.
