Landlord Accused of Breaking Into Tenant's Room and Attacking Her

The San Juan Capistrano man is arrested on suspicion of kidnapping and assault.

A 49-year-old San Juan Capistrano woman was bruised and scratched Saturday after she was attacked in her home, the Orange County Sheriff's Department reported.

William Mike Mimiaga, 41, the live-in landlord at the mobile home park in the 32000 block of Alipaz Street, was arrested and remains in custody on suspicion of kidnapping, assault and injuring a phone line.

Police say that at about 8 p.m. on Feb. 5, Mimiaga began repeatedly entering the woman's residence. During the initial entries, police say, he struck her, and he eventually started grabbing her and throwing things at her.

The woman had a cell phone nearby, authorities say, but Mimiaga took it so she couldn't call for help. She pulled a small dresser in front of the door  in her room as a barricade, but, police say, Mimiaga kicked the door in and made entry again. Authorities say he began throwing her around the room and dragged her from the bedroom, through the residence, to the door leading outside.

Police say the woman was able to get free and tried to call 911 from the house phone, but, they say, Mimiaga ripped the phone cord from the wall and shut off the electricity to the home to keep her from using a cordless phone. The woman eventually found the cell phone and called for help, police say.

When deputies arrived, Mimiaga was outside and was taken into custody. Deputies said the woman had scratches to her neck and chest; bruising to her neck; and scratches, scrapes and bruising to her arms, hands and right leg. Her clothing was reportedly torn off and hanging from her.

"Fortunately, deputies were able to arrive in time before she was seriously injured, and they arrested the assailant," said Lt. John Meyer.

Mimiaga was charged with kidnapping because is he accused of moving the woman from one room to another inside the residence against her will.
