Several fires burning west of Southwest Riverside County are located on Camp Pendleton.
According to base spokesman 1st Lt. Ryan Welsh, the blazes are burning in the Whiskey, Zulu and Quebec impact areas.
It was unclear how many acres had been blackened by then, though the flames were "sending up a lot of smoke," the lieutenant said.
Camp Pendleton artillery units are conducting day and night training Friday and Saturday using about 25 Howitzer 155mm cannons.
Welsh said the training likely ignited the blazes, but there are no injuries and no threat to structures.
"Camp Pendleton Fire is monitoring the fires," he said, explaining that the blazes may continue through the day.
Welsh could not provide a containment time, but stressed there is no threat to structures.
