The California Highway Patrol was present, too.

But it wouldn't be San Juan Capistrano without Mexican folk dancers, food from and and sounds from Los Rios Rock School.

It was the National Night Out, an annual tradition in many cities but . Held at , it's a night to tell criminals that neighbors are watching and won't be taken for fools.

It was a safety fair, where residents could learn about options to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

And it was a chance for friends to get together.
