San Juan Man Chased Burglary Suspect

Don't steal from this guy's car.

What would you do if you found a guy breaking into your car at 3 a.m.?

A resident at the 31500 block of Windsong Drive in San Juan Capistrano saw someone in the car parked in front of his home at 2:51 a.m. Saturday and started chasing him as he called the Orange County Sheriff's Department, said Lt. Steve Gil.

The suspected burglar is Jonathan Isaac Martinez, 29, according to jail records.

Gil said the man called 911 as he was running after Martinez -- the suspected burglar dropped the loot during the pursuit as an OCSD helicopter hovered overhead.

Deputies nabbed Martinez within eight minutes, Gil said.

According to jail records as of 8 a.m. Saturday, he was still in the booking process and no bail had been set.
