A middle-aged San Juan Capistrano man was hospitalized early Saturday after refusing to buy teenagers alcohol at the Pear Tree Plaza on Alipaz Street, authorities said.

According to Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman Jim Amormino, at about 2 a.m. the man was standing outside at the corner of Del Obispo Street when he was approached by several teenagers.

The minors asked the man to buy them alcohol at a nearby liquor store. When he refused, they beat him up, Amormino said.
