God Has Entered the Building

A freedom shrine, with copies of documents which formed the country -- and San Juan Capistrano -- is debuted at City Hall.

San Juan Capistrano leaders cut the ribbon Tuesday on their new "freedom shrine" in the City Council chambers.

The display, a collection of the country's founding and formative documents, including the Declaration of Independence and the Gettysburg Address, also features in large letters the nation's motto, "In God We Trust."

It was largely funded by the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints. The Exchange Clubs of Irvine and South Orange County also assisted.

Mission San Juan Capistrano gave the display a local flare by donating a copy of a document President Abraham Lincoln signed in 1865, returning the Mission property back to the Catholic Church and another t that Father Junipero Serra signed for the mission in 1775.
