Ocean Walkway Open Once Again Near Doheny

The San Juan Creek Trail is open once again near Doheny State Beach.

The portion of the trail near the ocean reopened Jan. 17, according to Nadia Haidar, spokeswoman for OC Public Works. It had been closed since September.

Workers have rebuilt the bike trail, rerouted a storm drain and built a 376-foot wall under PCH along the bike trail.

The county and the city of Dana Point will split the project's $1.1 million cost. How it will be split is still being discussed, Haidar said.

The trail was prone to flooding prior to the project, Haidar said.

"It would collect water and create a lagoon-like flood," she said. "It happened often due to runoff or high tide."
