PHOTOS: City's Adopted Marines Return Favors with Garden Cleanup

Marines weed, sweep and plant to say thanks to the city.

The city’s adopted Marine Batallion, the 1/11, invaded the city's Community Gardens last week to provide a much needed cleanup.

According to a city press release, the Marines wanted to “give back” to the San Juan Capistrano community that they believe has given so much to them.

Ten Marines came early in the morning to the Community Center and worked all day in the Community Garden, cleaning up weeds, sweeping sidewalks, and even did some planting.

“A few of the Marines actually told me that they would like to take up gardening after returning to base that day,” said Family Readiness Officer Nori Jackson.

This is not the only effort that the Marines have made to give back to the community. They have participated in the creek cleanup, helped at city events, and read to children at a local elementary school, according to the city.
