Students who attend the Two-Way Language Immersion Program learn to think, read, write and speak naturally in English and Spanish. They receive instruction in both English and Spanish to develop linguistic and academic competence in both languages. Students from the two language groups (native English and native Spanish speakers) attend class together, learn from one another and support each other's second language acquisition.

Students from around the district are welcome to apply to the program.

Chinese Available Too

The school district also offers a Two-Way program in Mandarin Chinese. Bergeson Elementary School in Laguna Niguel will hold informational meetings for its Mandarin Chinese Language Immersion Program on Jan. 15, 22, 29, and Feb. 12, in the multipurpose room. All meetings start at 8 a.m.

According to the district, these are very popular programs, and space is limited. Parents can contact the school directly to reserve a space for the informational meeting and tour. Children must be 5 years old by Oct. 1, 2013, to apply for the 2013-14 school year.
