‘Cosmos: A Personal Voyage’, a PBS TV docu-series which globally inspired millions to a love of science, learning, and freedom of inquiry, is being shown at the Regency Theater in San Juan Capistrano. Written, produced and hosted by the iconic astronomer and science popularizer Dr. Carl Sagan.
“Encyclopaedia Galactica”: From deciphering the Rosetta Stone in ancient Egypt to the Drake Equation as it postulates life on other planets, Dr. Sagan once again takes us on a journey spanning thousands of years only to show man's curiosity of other civilizations. Theoretical physicist A. Garrett Lisi is guest lecturer.
After getting his Ph.D. from UC San Diego, Lisi moved to the island of Maui to find an optimum balance between surfing and pursuing his own theoretical research. While pulling at a loose thread in the foundation of Quantum Field Theory, he soon found himself looking at the most beautiful unified model of particle physics anyone had ever seen. His story and work have been featured at TED, in Outside Magazine, The New Yorker, and recently in Scientific American. He is currently filming a new documentary for the History Channel called Invention USA.
