Woman Hit by School Bus Wants $58,397 from Capo

Michelle Rena Pike, of Mission Viejo, was hit near Capistrano Valley High School.

A Mission Viejo woman is seeking $58,397 from the following a traffic accident in which a school bus ran into her car.

Just before 3 p.m. on Sept. 28, Michelle Rena Pike was stopped on Avery Parkway near Plata Drive when a school bus hit her from behind, forcing her into the car in front of her. She had two children in the car, according to a claim filed with the district.

Through her attorney, Pike has sent a claim to the school district for $5,897 in current medical bills, $2,500 in future medical bills and $50,000 in general damages. The board of trustees will consider the claim at its Monday meeting. If it's denied, the woman could file a lawsuit.

According to Pike’s lawyer, Jeffrey Dawson of Irvine, the bus driver, Victoria Isch-Hewell was at fault for speeding. The staff report does not indicate whether there were students on the bus at the time of the accident.

The board meets at 7 p.m. at the district headquarters, 331122 Valle Rd., San Juan Capistrano.
