Even though he's only a freshman, Ben Sukut of Capistrano Valley Christian got a rare offer.

A football scholarship.

It happened after a recent passing league tournament when head coach Rocky Long offered the Mission Viejo teen the opportunity to play football at San Diego State.

Sukut. who may have had the best defensive performance in all of recorded football history last season, still has three years of high school remaining.

"Most football players that are offered a scholarship are not offered until after their junior or senior seasons," said Capo Valley Christian football coach Dan Dodd. "Ben is a very gifted young man and is deserving of this, and I don't think (SDSU) will be the last school to offer."

Sukut (6-1, 175) is a wide receiver and defensive back, two positions highlighted in 7-on-7 passing league games.
