Freshman Babick Has Big Game for Capistrano Valley Christian

Quarterback passes for three touchdowns and runs for four more in Eagles' 72-22 victory over St. Joseph Academy of San Marcos.

Quarterback Riley Babick accounted for seven touchdowns in Capistrano Valley Christian's 72-22 nonleague, eight-man victory over St. Joseph Academy of San Marcos Saturday night at San Clemente High.

Babick, a freshman, completed 12 of 18 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 21 times for 95 yards and four more scores for the Eagles (2-1), who scored 39 points in the first quarter and another 20 in the second to lead at halftime, 59-22.

Capistrano Valley Christian dominated both the offensive and defensive lines, and a running clock was employed in the second half, during which the Eagles attempted only two passes.

Junior running back Joseph Brinkis, playing in his first game, had six carries for 67 yards and three touchdowns, and freshman running back Andre Anderson had seven carries for 50 yards and one touchdown.

Freshman wide receiver Anthony Discenzo had six receptions for 49 yards; senior wide receiver Brody Babick had two catches for 61 yards and two touchdowns, and sophmore wide receiver Mike Updegraff had two receptions for 25 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles play host to Hesperia Christian (2-1) in a nonleague game Friday night at San Clemente High. St. Joseph Academy falls to 0-2.
