High School Boys and Girls Soccer Championship Schedule Announced

Four South Orange County high school soccer teams will play in CIF Southern Section championship matches this weekend.

It's no surprise that the girls teams reached this pinnacle as both San Clemente in Division 1 and St. Margaret's in Division 6 were league champions and the top-seeded teams in their divisions going into the playoffs.

But the boys teams are another story. Neither was seeded among the top four teams, as San Clemente finished second in the South Coast League and Capistrano Valley was third in the Sea View League. But that was then, and the playoffs are now, and the Tritons and Cougars are playing for the Divisions 1 and 2 titles, respectively.

Competition begins with a girls soccer doubleheader Friday night at Mission Viejo High, where St. Margaret's (25-2-1) will meet San Dimas (20-2-2) at 5 p.m. That match will be followed by the one between San Clemente (19-2-7) and third-seeded Flintridge Sacred Heart (20-1-1) at 7:30 p.m.

Despite the location of the game, St. Margaret's and San Clemente will be designated the "visitors." Gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and admission will be charged.

Both boys soccer matches will take place on Saturday at 7:30 p.m., when San Clemente (16-6-6) meets Santa Barbara (20-5-3) at Warren High in Downy and Capistrano Valley (16-5-7) plays Claremont (20-1-5) at Mission Viejo High.

Again, both the local teams are the "visitors." Four other championship games precede the 7:30 p.m. contests, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Gates will open at 9 a.m. and, again, admission will be charged.
