Ready for a Pub Crawl, SJC-Style?

In a new event, 14 local restaurants will feature microbrews, entertainment and prizes every Wednesday, starting this week.

San Juan Capistrano is hosting a new monthly event its calling “Microbrew by the Mission.”

Downtown San Juan Capistrano restaurants and the are giving San Juan locals a taste of 14 microbrews at 14 locations around the Mission, including , , and .

Each season, the 14 venues will feature a new microbrew or craft beer. The 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. event will run the last Wednesday of each month. The summer brews will be served July 25, Aug. 29 and Sept. 26.

The tall, cold ones will cost $4, and participants have a chance to win prizes, such as shirts and hats from participating breweries, gift certificates for participating restaurants and Playhouse tickets for more summer entertainment.

In December, Santa’s little helpers made an through downtown San Juan Capistrano, and the name stuck. Those with the wherewithal to make the “pub crawl” to all 14 venues through the course of the season can earn a chance to win a weekend stay at Marriott's Residence Inn in San Juan Capistrano.

While obviously not a restaurant, the Camino Real Playhouse will offer up appetizers from the musical entertainment, lead singer and keyboardist for the psychedelic 1960s band “Iron Butterfly,” Martin Gerschwitz.
