I-5 Freeway Closure Planned for This Weekend in San Juan Capistrano

If you're on the freeway, prepare to exit. If you're a local, prepare to find another way to get to the other side of town.

The twice-canceled full freeway closure of the I-5 Freeway in San Juan Capistrano is back on again this weekend, according to Caltrans.

On Friday and Saturday, crews will perform  full closures on the northbound and southbound I-5 at Ortega Highway to complete framing work on the Ortega Highway bridge.

Here’s how the closure will work. Between 11:59 p.m. and 6 a.m. Friday and Saturday nights, traffic will be directed to exit Ortega Highway, proceed straight through the intersection and re-enter the freeway on the sequential Ortega Highway onramp.

During both nights of the full-freeway closures, the northbound and southbound I-5 on- and off-ramps will not be accessible to city traffic. The ramps will be reserved as a detour route for freeway motorists only.

To keep local traffic away, Ortega Highway between Del Obispo Street and Rancho Viejo Road will be closed to traffic.
