Ortega Construction: Full Freeway Closures Planned
Getting over or under the Ortega bridge in San Juan Capistrano may get even trickier this week.
On Friday and Saturday, crews will perform full closures on the I-5 freeway at Ortega Highway in order to construct falsework – temporary support structures -- for the south half of the bridge.
These closures will take place between 11:59 p.m. and 5 a.m. on both nights. Nighttime closures of the northbound and southbound I-5 will not take place simultaneously, with only one direction of the freeway being closed each night.
During the full freeway closures, motorists will be instructed to exit Ortega Highway, proceed through the intersection and re-enter the freeway on the sequential Ortega Highway on-ramp.
