The summer/Labor Day holiday DUI crackdown on drinking drivers has ended and resulted in hundreds of DUI arrests from sobriety checkpoints, saturation patrols and routine patrols in Orange County during the past 18 days.
From Friday, Aug. 16 in San Juan Capistrano through midnight Monday, officers representing 38 county law enforcement agencies arrested 793 individuals for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to an Orange County Sheriff’s Department press release.
In 2012, 843 DUI arrests occurred during the same time period.
Law enforcement officials will be conducting more ‘Avoid DUI” efforts throughout the county and region during Halloween and Thanksgiving, according to the sheriff’s department. Police, sheriff’s deputies and the CHP encourage all motorists to help make your community safer by reporting drunk drivers. Call 911 anytime you encounter an impaired driver.
